According to the US Treasury Department, the largest currency denomination ever printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing was the $100,000 series 1934 gold certificate, which featured a portrait of President Woodrow Wilson.

The biggest bill still in use is the classic C note — the $100 bill. The Benjamin was the highest note to survive the 1969 repeal, because by that point electronic money transfer systems had rendered large paper bills unnecessary.

This so-called paper money is in fact a cotton and linen blend, with red and blue minute silk fibers running through it. It is actually material. We’ve all washed it without it falling apart. A special blend of ink is used, the contents we will never know. It is overprinted with symbols and then it is starched to make it water resistant and pressed to give it that nice crisp look.
If you look on the front of the bill, you will see the United States Treasury Seal. On the top you will see the scales for a balanced budget. In the center you have a carpenter’s square, a tool used for an even cut. Underneath is the Key to the United States Treasury. That’s all pretty easy to figure out, but what is on the back of that dollar bill is something we should all know.

On 11 April, 2007, Forbes reported that telecommunications magnate Carlos Slim Helú had risen to become the world’s second richest man.[2] Later, the Wall Street Journal on 4 August, 2007 and Fortune Magazine on 6 August, 2007 reported that Carlos Slim Helú had topped Bill Gates’ position as the wealthiest person in the world.[3][4][5] However, proper accounting methodology requires that all people on the list be ranked on the same date. The United States one dollar bill ($1) is a denomination of U.S. currency, and is also the most common. The first president, George Washington, painted by Gilbert Stuart, is currently featured on the obverse, while the Great Seal of the United States is featured on the reverse. The one dollar bill has the oldest design of all U.S. currency currently being produced. The obverse debuted in 1963 when the $1 bill first became a Federal Reserve Note.

An individual dollar bill is also less formally known as a one, a buck, a single, a smackeroo, a clam, a simoleon, a bone, a greenback, a bill, a dead president, a paper, or a dollar. The term greenback dates back to 1861[1] (from Demand Notes) as the nickname for the green side of money.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing says the “average life” of a $1 bill in circulation is 21 months before it is replaced due to wear. Approximately 45% of all U.S. currency produced today are one dollar bills.[2]
All $1 bills produced today are Federal Reserve Notes. One dollar bills are delivered by Federal Reserve Banks in blue straps.
